Ive been doing science illustration for years, specializing in deep sea and hydrothermal vent environments. Now Im hoping to branch out into less obscure subject matter and join the illustration friday group as an exercise to loosen up and open my horizons. wish me luck!

Thousands of ManOWar jelly fish were adrift off the Key West bight.

While working on a research vessel in the Atlantic Ocean, we pulled a buoy on deck with a plethora of life attached to the rope. These clusters of flying fish eggs were fascinating to observe and illustrate.

A couple years ago spent time sailing around the Dry Tortugas,
off the Florida coast, and these venomous beauties were everywhere, making the water hard to enjoy...I did this watercolor sketch from a man o' war I scooped up in a bucket.

Wolves have been successful reintroduced in Idaho, branching out to areas very close to where we live. Recently there was a lone wolf way up on the ridge behind our house, lounging on the wind packed snowline.

I started with a watercolor painting, and then played with it in Photoshop to give it a different feeling.

karen jacobsen illustration: I love to illustrate and paint the natural world- I find beauty and interest in everything and enjoy discovering new things about my subjects, and then how I translate that into a visual image.
